PART OF A BIGGER PURPOSE

At the beginning of 2019 I invite you to consider the following

questions:

What amazes you about God?

What amazes you about God’s creation?

What special blessing have you been given to serve God’s

kingdom?

How are you fulfilling your purpose?

When we read the beautiful and inspiring praise Psalms (especially Psalms 144 to 150) we are reminded of the most magnificent truths which guide our entire lives and help us to understand our purpose.

God created all things. He set the sun, moon, and stars in their place. He created the blue of the sky, the white of the clouds, and the green of the grass. He set the depth of the ocean and the height of the mountains. He determined the circumference of the earth and the divisions of land and sea. He established the seasons of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

God put the breath into our lungs. He set the rhythm of our hearts. He connected our joints and ligaments. He wired our brains to work with our nerves and five senses. He designed the digestive system to supply fuel for our bodies. He engineered us to sleep and to replenish both our bodies and minds.

God gave us talents and abilities. He instilled passions in our hearts. He placed people in our lives to nurture us and to encourage us. In his wisdom, He put us on earth at this time in history. He determined the place we would enter the world.

God gives us his Word that guides and instructs us. This Word reveals our connectedness to God, our hope, and our confidence. He provides teachers and guides to help us understand and live out that Word. He blesses us with the sacrament of Holy Communion to help us regularly encounter his presence. Through baptism, God gives us a new identity as his children who can call him Father.

He gives us the ability to learn and to develop. We have books to read that offer the wisdom that has been accumulated through the ages. He gives us people who have different experiences that challenge our thinking and help us to sharpen our intellect. He allows challenges in our lives to refine us and help us to learn to trust him.

God is the amazing, mysterious but also knowable God.

We are blessed! We are nothing without him. He is responsible for every good thing we have in this life. Why is God so good to us? Because we are worthy of his love. He believes in us. He lives in us.

You have a calling. You are not here without reason. God is wise. He knows exactly what he is doing. He knew that you were needed here and now. He invites you to join into something that is bigger than yourself. He invites you into a life of service to him and to others. He invites you to discover fulfilment, adventure, and joy.
