The Sails of the Soul

How ineffable the Holy Spirit,
What a rare and precious Sprite.
How infallible, as God does will it,
It’s very presence; true delight.
As unprocurable as the foggy mountains,
As deep as the starry abyss,
As fresh as the clearest fountains,
So much the more, lovely, than all of this.
As the air is always silent,
Yet is present everywhere.
As the wind can bear no confinement,
And goes wherever it cares.
So too the precious spirit soars,
That personality of Love,
That Divinity made to touch all shores,
The living Charity thereof.
Just as none can grasp the wind,
Or hold a mighty gale in the hand –
So too none can take hold of The Spirit,
As it is much superior to man.
Beloved, truest beauty, true light!
Come dwell with us, give us life!
Active, moving, living God!
Bring us Thy blessings, of exquisite love.
